Thoughts of Akili

It is my duty to share my point of view with the world, to spark brain cells and build a momentum for change. One man can make a difference. May we all ascend to Godly heights, in the name of the Most High. Amen.

Quiet Rage

As I stare at this blank page
I contemplate and set the stage
To release myself from this bodily cage
I'm not talking about suicide or death...
So what's left?
Taking this life on a rise
I try to open my eyes
But in disguise
Is a man who sleep-walks through lives
Repeating the same situations
Over and over again
Not receiving my blessings
Taking my time to learn lessons
And struggling to remain conscious
Of my thoughts and feelings
Projecting a new reality
Within this moment
I must improve my state
Without having to exacerbate
Those negative experiences I create
I am saying that it's my fate
To change my life for the better
By following my own advice to the letter
I will make myself more aware
Because there's no such thing as fair
And some people just don't care
In this world where there's no community
So by giving myself spiritual immunity
I will flip this rage on its back
And create a world that's impervious to attack
Within me
Cause life is what you make it!

The Circle of Life

Death is often a time of strife
Yet it also creates more life, from a higher perspective
Because death brings a family together, as a collective
It allows us to demonstrate how strong we truly are
In spite of leaving long-lasting scars
Because it cuts deep…
And although we weep
It reveals how important we are to each other
And in a strange way, it helps us to uncover
The truest part of ourselves...
We find that we become better individuals
During this time of grief
By sticking together as a unit
This helps us gain some sense of relief
And in time we understand
That life goes on…
It is a continuous process
Birth, life, and death
It helps us to appreciate the simple things
The birds, the trees, and fellow beings
As we travel this journey
Family helps us to see the similarities
Passed down by generations
Information that helps us to connect the dots
In this challenging, and sometimes brutal test
We must put the pieces that fit together
While discarding the rest
And family helps us make sense of all this mess
We find answers to questions like
"Where do we come from?"
And "Why do we do what we do?"
Each revelation gives us a much needed clue
And family helps us to move through this cycle…
Birth, Life and Death
Then back again
Like a circle
There is truly no end
And FAMILY is the key to this link
We are the original circle of friends
Because family is where it all begins
